Lotusphere 2009 Session Abstracts Published

The Lotusphere team has updated the website with full sessions’ abstracts. The lectures in each session are also available. Customers have been asking me about Lotusphere since Sep., wanting to know the details, planned announcements, parties, best practices session, workshops, etc. I’m told that registration is beyond expectation, already exceeding last year’s figures.. Hurry up and secure your spot at the largest Lotus and WebSphere Portal event.
See you all in Orlando, January 18th !

I know of at least one party, that will be celebrated throughout the US during Lotusphere…

The early days of B2C (aka web 0.1)

Nowadays it seems trivial, the internet. I am doing pretty much everything online, and if it’s not available online – chances are I will not look at it or consider any other action.
Been visiting a veteran Lotus Notes customer the other day, when I came across this poster, from one of IBM’s old campaigns, e-business.
Lou Gerstner, IBM CEO and President in the 1990s mentioned the term in his book, referring to IBM’s internet and marketing teams. Seeing this poster was like taking a time machine back to 1998… :-))

It’s all about LIVE sharing

Microsoft Israel Tech-Ed 2008 started today in Eilat, and as usual the event is set to be one of the biggest IT events this year. Every year Microsoft attract thousands of customers, analysts, bloggers, press and consultants – for an event mostly known for the party on the 2nd day.

What I wanted to share with you is the excellent work Microsoft Israel are doing with respects to viral marketing, led by Lior Zoref, Digital Marketing Group. The digital group, along with Tech-Ed staff, are using every web 2.0 medium available to convey the Tech-Ed spirit to attendees and people who couldn’t join in person: blogs, videos, audios, pictures and web.

Prior to the event there was even a 5min video, explaining ‘how to persuade your boss to let you go to Tech-Ed‘. Genius.

Microsoft are also taking the blogging community seriously, and draws the equation blogger=journalist. The bloggers attended the press briefing Sunday morning, to get all the updates and guidelines. Bloggers even got some cute giveaways, such as a power expander (to charge more than one appliance), USB to Cellphone thingy, Energy Bar (to keep those fingers working) and more.

Although I compete with Microsoft on solutions, and not agree with all their tactics and strategies, they are doing an excellent job in adopting and embracing the community, which often lead to greater sympathy… and sympathy can go a long way

Pass it on

Come Sunday I’m gonna send it to our print house and see how I can make bumper/laptop/window stickers out of it…
After I’ll clear it with Legal/Marketing of course…

Gorillas and Chocolate – Cadbury Style

Woke up very early today (5am – still jet-legged) and decided to catch up on some reading.
Adam Gartenberg usually writes about Lotus Sametime and IBM Collaboration and Communication strategy, but this morning he linked to Tom Peters blog, who explained what is the connection between Gorillas and Chocolate, and why this Gorilla is hitting the drums, Phil Collins style.

Although the YouTube versions have passed 1 million views, I recommend seeing it on the original site – the sync (audio/video) is much better, higher resolution, and makes you wanna press “Play” again…

Now, after seeing the advert twice, let me tell you what I think:
Cadbury wanted to regain their audience, as well as strengthening the brand name, which suffered a hit with the salmonella fiasco last year. In order to do so, the advert must attract the audience, make them curious. We’ve seen dozens of dairy milk adverts, highlighting the product, focusing on its nutrition value, advantages for children, etc.
But we haven’t seen one with a playing-the-drums Gorilla, where the product appears in the last 5 seconds of the ad. The Gorilla makes you stay (and turn up the volume), and the connection is made at the end – the passion for Cadbury chocolate is still here.

You can read more on Adam’s post and Tom Peters.
