IBM Software Forum – 8 days away…

Just over a week before IBM Software Forum kicks off, we have some 50 people registered – to the Lotus session alone! The other five sessions are filling up quite fast, so it’s best to register now.
You already know what Lotus agenda will look like, but I’m still working on my presentation, the first one of the evening. I have a rough idea what I want to talk about, but in the spirit of collaboration and sharing I thought ‘hey, why not ask the community?‘.

So, this is me, asking you, the community, who will attend IBM Software Forum next Thu., what do you want to hear? what’s interests you? Just comment below, email me dvir at il.ibm.com or send @dvirreznik. I’ll do my best to incorporate your wishes in my presentation.

Updated Monday with links to the event page at ibm.com/il/news/events/swforum .

IBM Software Forum will be held on Thursday, February 26th, 15:00-17:30, at Cinema City just outside of Tel Aviv.
The event will feature all five software brands – Lotus, Tivoli, Information Management, Rational and WebSphere – and focus on new announcements and success stories. The 6th session will focus on IBM System Z solutions (Mainframe). Participation is free of course, but requires registration at ibm.com/il . At the end of IBM Software Forum there will be a premiere movie screening at Cinema City, of Gran Turino, starring Clint Eastwood.

As for Lotus, we have a very cool afternoon planned out, with two guest speakers and a welcome presentation by yours truly. The Lotus agenda is as follow:
Social media at the business and new Lotus solutions – Dvir Reznik
Housing 2.0 at Amidar – Amir Belferman, CIO, Amidar
Barack Obama, the long tail and social media – Niv Calderon, social media consultant.

The event page for registration and full description of IBM Software Forum will go live Sunday, so by Monday morning this post will be updated for you to register.. 😉

See you at IBM Software Forum!

Steve Mills: I compete with Microsoft everyday

Steve Mills, IBM SVP, Software Group, is responsible for the 33,000 software professionals working around the globe, in sales, development and services, cashing in $18B in revenues (2007) and accountable for 40% of IBM’s profit. It’s no secret that IBM and Microsoft compete in the messaging and collaboration space for some time, with both companies in it for the long run.

Last week during a visit to UAE, Steve outlined his views on the software business, IBM Software strategy, acquisitions and the competition of course.

I compete with Microsoft everyday, Mills says. That space is very competitive between the two companies. They’re endlessly attacking us. We’re endless attacking them and there is nothing more fun than to attack your competitor with ‘free’.

Jeff Schick talks to Blonde2.0

Jeff Schick, VP Social Software for IBM Software Group, visited Israel back in September, for a very intense 36 hours, during which he and Arjan Radder (Social Software Sales Mgr., IBM Europe) met with customers and analysts, talking about enterprise 2.0, collaboration within the firewall and empowering the workforce. The last interview Jeff had was with my friend and social media colleague Blonde 2.0 (aka Ayelet Noff) – talking about how IBM is embracing social media tools internally and what future technologies the market can expect from IBM in that field. The video interview Ayelet did just went live on her blog.
