It’s all about creating a buzz..

In a lecture I gave a while back I stated some facts about YouTube!, from its official stats. As it turns out, there are 100 million (!) videos watched, every day! and roughly 65,000 videos are uploaded every day. But strikes me the most is the fact that the average user spends 17 minutes at youtube.com. 17 minutes. We’re talking of a website that has only videos, most of them under 5 mins.
The first response from the people who heard that was “how they find the time?” “don’t they have work to do”? As one of the people spending several minutes at YouTube I think that it’s all part of our work. Taking those 5-10 minute break, laugh a little, explore what the world created (Time Magazine POY) – is also working.

With that in mind, I was ‘working’ in YouTube the other day and came across this commercial. I work with advertising agencies a bit, and I know a good commercial when I see one, and this is a good commercial. I agree that the commercial sucks. I would probably find 20 other scenarios to advertise that Flea Market, if I were asked to. But this is a good commercial because it created a buzz. And in the world we live in, web 2.0, creating that buzz is the real thing.

The video was watched 210,000 times (when I wrote this), and most important – over 330 comments. Creating a buzz, remember?

And now you can watch it, and let me know what you think.

Windows Live Writer (Beta)

This is the first post I’m writing using Microsoft Windows Live Writer (Beta). I’ve seen a post somewhere in the blogosphere (sorry, can’t remember where), and I’ve been trying to use it ever since. After some firewall issues, it finally connected to my blog.

My 1st impression is wow. Very intuitive, easy to use design, the GUI is very Office-like, and editing/creating posts has never been easier.

A very simple wizard lets you connect to either Windows Live Blogging service or a bunch of other blogging services, including Blogger (which I use).

Just enter your blog url, username and pass, and you’re there.. So far, compared with the online version of writing in my blog, it’s a hugh difference. Like writing a Word doc.

I still have to play with it a bit, but it looks good.

The only issue so far is with images. You have to create a FTP connection to upload images, or host them in one of the free hosting services online, and paste the image link (which I did). But if you already have a blog, I’m guessing you have a FTP available, so that’s not a big problem…

1st Snowboarding of the season.. and the outcome of my presentation

It has been an interesting 2 weeks for me, and today they are over. I’m doing my MBA at Bar Ilan University, and during the past 2 weeks I had 4 exams, which means I had to take some time off from work..

Well, my last exam was yesterday (Wed), and today I decided to make a long weekend, and drove up north with couple of friends to the Hermon Mt., the only ‘Ski Resort’ we have in Israel. We had some true winter this past month in Israel, and the snow piled up to over 1 meter, which is about 3.2 feet – and that’s a lot! for Israel..

It was excellent!! Beautiful weather, excellent snowboarding conditions, good company – we even brought short-wave radio, so we can talk to each other on the slopes.. The only problem was that we were not alone – the site was PACKED with people, skiing/snowboarding (and visitors), and when there are a lot of people, the resort turns into an unpleasant place. It’s just not equipped to handle massive amount of people, and at some point we had to wait 30min for the chair-lift, and an additional 20min on it (very-very slow).
So overall it was a good first day for snowboarding, but we didn’t snowboard as much as we hoped..

So, after 3 days off work, and an additional 2 days (weekend), I’m heading back to work on Sunday (as you might recall, Israel working week is Sun-Thu). And on that subject, I owe you a follow-up post, regarding my presentation this Sun.
I gave a presentation earlier this week to my department at work about web 2.0 tactics, and its business implications. After reading some of my linked bloggers, I decided to use some of their rules, which I described in an earlier post.
Re Web 2.0, Todd Watson posted on his blog this video, web 2.0 explained. After watching it, twice, I think I could save a lot of time working on my presentation, and just show that video..

It was a blast! I must take my hat (or fingers) off to Seth Godin, Guy Kawasaki and Presentation Zen for their ideas on how to deliver a winning presentation. Although I think they aimed more at VC presentations, giving an elevator pitch, or a business plan to investors, but their tips also apply to every-day presentations.

The first slide, ‘title’, was the comic shown to the left.
A big thank you (and link of course) goes to bLaugh – the (un)official comic of the blogosphere, for their inspiring comics, which I used in my slides.

Oh, one last thing – Technorati has started tracking my blog.. after I signed in, and gave it a trace order.. Another milestone achieved.

Superbowl tv spots are here!

Not much of a superbowl fan, but there’s nothing like the tv ads. I still don’t know why put $2.5m for a 30sec spot, but then again, I’m not the one paying, so my opinion doesn’t worth much..

Gizmondo have already posted a post about the ads, their favorites. You can view them here.

You can also check YouTube!, which have a special page for the Superbowl spots, where you can rate the top ads, and watch them (dahh..)..

BTW, here’s my favorite ad (Budlight of course..)

And, finally, congratulations to Payton Manning, for winning MVP and bringing the title to the Colts after 36 years…
