Mizbala made the shortlist at Cannes!!!

When ever someone wins something around the world, we (Israelies) are always looking for the Jewish angle, no matter how narrow that angle might be.

Today, there’s no need for that.
Mizbala, a guerrilla marketing agency in Israel, has made it to the short list at Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival !!!

In fact, they made it twice! The first is for this awesome promo campaign for Christina Aguilera’s new perfume, with the coat hangers spread across cities in Israel. The second is part of The Young Lions Film Competition, in cooperation with YouTube, in which contestants were requested to create a video to stop global warming (brief). The winners will be part of YouTube team at the competition.

The second:

Guy, Dori – Mazal Tov!! You make us all (me at least) very proud :-))
Now go grab that Lion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back on the market

Today was my last day at Isracard.

After a short tenure at the leading credit card company in Israel, I came to realize there is a gap in expectations, that cannot be bridged at this time. Some might ponder as to ‘why/what/how/are you crazy?!’, but as I learned during my professional career and my personal life alike – talking is the ultimate communication medium, and there’s no point keeping things inside, waiting for them to pass.

I would like to thank Isracard and the wonderful people I met at the advertising department – an awesome bunch of savvy individuals doing a great job that have hugged me from day 1, welcomed me with open arms (and plenty of candy.. 😉 and were supportive from the start. Thank you.

So, I’m back on the market, looking to do amazing online and digital marketing things. You already know how to reach me… 🙂

These companies ‘get’ social media. Does yours?

Kerry Capell has written an interesting post over at businessweek.com providing an excellent case study for the usage of social media services in companies’ marketing strategy. In her post, Building European Brands through Social Media, Kerry is giving examples of some European brands – Cadbury, Vodafone, Unilever, Nestle and Volkswagen – and their innovative ideas of connecting the customers to the product and making conversation.

The concept of leveraging social (or new) media to reinvent the way companies engage with their customers isn’t new, but it’s always refreshing reading the new ideas and then looking in-house, at your company, and exploring what’s possible. In tough economical times, getting ad money isn’t easy (not to mention budget cuts), and social media campaigns are much cheaper, more effective (at times) and make a lot of noise.

Clay Shirky said in his recent TED lecture that twitter is making history and that the internet is changing the way people communicate and collaborate – “When a new consumer joins the conversation, a new producer joins as well”. The examples Kerry brings forth are a strong testimony to the power of social media and I hope Israeli companies will soon follow in those foot steps. I for one, will definitely do my best to make it a reality, soon.

Clay Shirky: How twitter can make history

Clay Shirky is a known voice in the internet space, a Professor at NYU teaching ‘Social Weather’ at the Interactive Telecommunications Program. He’s also an excellent speaker and a frequent visitor at TED.com.

His latest lecture is worth watching twice, to fully understand the message. Clay goes over recent revolutions in the telco industry that enable all of us to collaborate and share. And according to him, twitter is already changing the world (iranelection, obamacampaign, china). I really liked what he said about conversation and groups (mid-way into the lecture):

Unlike past telco inventions (print, tv and radio), the internet (and twitter) is the first communication tool that enables us to make conversation and create groups – at the same time.

Enough of me, just watch the lecture (17:03):

Nokia Launches the E72

Nokia released a successor to the highly recommended E71 business phone – the E72. On top of sporting a slightly different look, with the ‘Intuitive Optical Navi Key’ (navigation button/mouse), the biggest improvements for me are the new 5MP camera and the 3.5mm headphone jack. Until now I was somewhat discouraged to upgrade my N95 to the E71 because of those 2 features – I love my N95 camera, and with 30fps it puts out above average video as well. With the new 5MP camera onboard the E72 (although only 15fps in video), I feel ready for the upgrade, and won’t have to carry the ac adaptor with me (because the battery life of the N95 is very poor). On the business-end, I’m thrilled to see Lotus Notes Traveler pre-installed, the first mobile phone to offer this application.

So, Cellcom – whenever you plan on bringing the E72, give me a call and we’ll talk.

I just hope Nokia remembered to fix the alarm clock snooze problem
