Impression from PS/3 launch party

It was a nice evening yesterday in Tel Aviv, Israel, as Sony prepared to launch the PS/3. In the trendy Whiskey-Gogo bar at the Tel Aviv Harbor, gathered some 200+ game freaks to play the next gen of Sony’s Blu-Ray machine. Major internet news sites covered the event – you can read from nrg.co.il, walla!, Ynet and others.

Some red PS/3 banners welcomed the guests (by invitation only), and 12-14 PS/3 consoles were spread out in the room, with matching Sony LCDs – to support the HD capabilities of the console. Sony also invited local celebrities, Basketball and Football players, news anchors and business man – who came with their kids…

The console itself is pretty amazing. All the videos you see can’t reflect the true quality of the machine, and Sony also allocated one Full HD LCD to show the difference between regular DVD and Blu-Ray DVD – just for fun. Sony released 8 Blu-Ray titles, and the first 1000 lucky buyers would get the PS/3 with the latest Bond movie, Casino Royale. On the demo, it looked superb! But how many of us, normal people, have Full-HD LCD in our living room? I’m guessing very few…

If you want to play with the new PS/3, you can visit the IBM booth tomorrow (March 21st) at the 2007 STKI.Info Summit, at Avenue, Airport City. IBM is taking sponsorship at the summit and will showcase the PS/3 console as part of its Innovation message. I will be there also, for IBM (my employer..) taking the guests on a virtual Second Life tour, into IBM Islands.. IBM has 12 islands in SL, including 2 stores (Circuit City and Sears), along with SOA Hub and conference halls.

Anyway, see you tomorrow at the IBM booth !

PS/3 arrives to Israel – March 24 !!

It’s coming.. soon.. you can almost smell it.. Sony PS/3 will make its debut in Israel on Sat. the 24th. 5 days from now. A handful of lucky people, yours truly included, will get a chance to explore the much anticipated game console tomorrow (Mon.), at the official Sony launch event.

Stay tuned for pictures and first impressions tomorrow night..

buying a software..

When you tell people you’re going to buy a software, they look at you like you fell from the sky. “You’re going to buy a software? why?” I don’t know when this trend started, that paying for a software is the act of fools, or people who are simply new to this new thing called “The Internet”. There were times when buying a software was good, and acceptable. I used to go to a computer store in Tel Aviv and buy a game I wanted, or a Word Processor.

Buying a software.. it has a nice ring to it, don’t you agree?

Apple Commercial

It started. After Apple has settled the iPhone name issues with Cisco, there’s finally a date.
June 2007.
And now, it’s advertising time. And what a better launch date than the Oscars Ceremony. PC World reported that a new teaser is set to air during the Oscars.

RSSers: if you can’t see the video, click here.

You can hear (and see) ‘Hello’ 30 times, and than the Apple logo. Nice teaser, but I know Apple creative are capable of much more

Remembering the 6 millions

My employer, IBM Israel, started today a special series for employees, retirees and family members about The Holocaust. The series, in conjunction with Yad Vasehm, Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority, includes several aspects of The Holocaust. Today was the first lecture, about Holocaust Denial, which recently jumped to the headlines, after Iran’s Holocaust Denial Conference, held in December 2006.

During the lecture we saw actual footage of film that was taken during WW2, by a German Navy soldier, and 3 other movies (other than Schindler’s List) that elaborates the Hell people suffered some 60 years ago. We also saw a piece by ’60 Minutes’ from the 90’s about Holocaust Denial, and the lies they spread where ever they went.

I am almost 29 now, both my parents were born and raised in Israel, but both my grandparents are survivors of that awful event. I heard stories, saw movies, read books and visited Poland in high-school. For me, as a Jew, it’s part of my legacy, my past, my present and my future.

I am not pretending to know all there is about The Holocaust, that’s why Yad Vashem was established. But I know the hard facts, and if someone would ask me I know what to answer.

If you are Jewish, Yad Vashem is a must see in your to-do list. More so if you live in Israel – the new Yad Vashem Museum is stunning and you’ll need more than a day to see everything. But the main exhibit can be walked through in 3 hours, with or without a guide, and it will leave you searching for words, to express what you saw.

In honor of the 6 million who lost their lives, so we can live our own, freely.
