Start Snapping..

Totally forgot to mention it, but I’m now using Snap Shots, which basically creates a tiny preview, a shot, of a link within a site.
Snap can be added to any website, and the process is very easy and short. After you enter your site url, Snap creates a javascript (js) code, that you can insert in the “head” section of the html. There’s even a PDF file to help you insert the code into your blogging platform.
The outcome:
If you’re reading this blog on the web, not using RSS, you probably have noticed the little yellow flag to the right of each link. Hovering for a second on the link, or the flag, will create a tiny preview (snap shot) of the link’s destination.. Very intuitive, and simple.
Only problem is finding out how I can insert this little JS code into my Google Reader…
Ideas anyone?
There’s a Firefox extension that can give you a preview similar to Snap’s functionality, but still, it’s not the same…

Brilliant ad – Nissan Qashqai

I like commercials, especially those that have a unique twist, that looks different..
The other day someone sent me the Nissan Qashqai (Rugue in the US) new tv ad.
As Nissan’s new cross-over vehicle they had to make the ad special, different.
Words cannot explain. Just watch.

Troubled guy.. but funny conversation

It’s a different world out there, with web2.0, wi-fi everywhere, BT, 3G phones, webcam – the opportunities for making an ass out of your self, or someone else, are much bigger these days..

Take a look at this guy. He didn’t like paying $303 per month for his car insurance, so he decided to call up the agency, and find out some ‘statistically significant’ facts.. Funny guy.. yet very troubling..

Remember – anyone can listen..

Mid 2Q Resolutions for a Connected Blogger

Google added some time ago a new cool feature to its Google Reader web based (of course) application, Google Trends.
Basically, it tells you everything you want to know about your reading trends: when you read, which feeds, for how long, how many, which day/hour, etc. There are some nice graphs as well, for those who like results displayed in a colored matrix..

I copy-pasted 2 charts I feel summarize my experience so far, and those are which day and which hour I get my fix of feeds.. Surprisingly, or not, Sundays are my preferred reading days. Surprise because in Israel, Sunday is a working day, the first of the week, not part of the weekend. I can only assume that less work is getting done on Sunday.. The weekdays are roughly the same, just over 150 items per day.. I don’t read all of them, some I just scroll through
In the next chart you can see my reading hours. I would expect mornings and just after lunch, but it appears that mornings are just not my thing. Again, no surprise there as I’m not a morning person.. Noon is almost a peak, probably because I like to have some new gossip to talk about over lunch.. 🙂 Another interesting fact – I go to sleep late !! very late! It appears that I read 150 items between midnight and 2 a.m. ! wow…
Couple of action items for self, after this short analysis:

  • Stop working over the weekends. The week is long enough, and my office will still be there coming Sunday. I really tend to work over the weekends, and I do want to cut it down.. not healthy.
  • Go to sleep earlier. Not early, we’re not 6th graders, but earlier. Like midnight, 1 a.m at the latest. It’s hard, as my better half is usually awake, working her best in those little hours of the night, but I will make an effort.
  • Working evenings. With the laptop age, that isn’t new, the office is a very relative term. It can be your office-office, your home-office, your coffee shop-office, your shopping mall-office – no end in sight.. So, for the past week or so, I decided to keep my laptop in its hand bag, and not take it out when I reach home.. Nothing is that urgent..

I’ll keep you posted on my progress.. you can call them “Mid 2Q Resolutions for a connected blogger” items. Bit long, but has a nice ring to it…

IBM a Top Innovator, again…

I don’t usually comment about IBM, as this is my personal blog, but some issues require my attention, and comment.
BusinessWeek-Boston Consulting Group published its 2007 World’s Most Innovative Companies report, and IBM is in the top 10, again. IBM is not in the top 5, but we did jump one place to 9th.
Still, a respectable achievement, if we consider the competition. Competing with Apple and Google (1st & 2nd, respectively) isn’t easy, especially if you consider IBM is in an entirely different line of business. We work with corporations, governments and companies, whereas Apple & Co. and working with consumers.. it’s easier to show innovation in the consumer based market.
100 million iPods do make a difference..

IBM’s Innovation agenda has been in the front line of our strategy for some time now. Sam Palmisano, IBM’s CEO, mentioned in PartnerWorld 2007 why innovation is crucial to survive in the industry, and how IBM is positioned to support our business partners, customers and even ourselves to become better innovators. According to IBM, innovation is not only in products or services, but also in business processes and business transformation.
