Presentation rules

The amount of information on the web is truly awesome. I use Google Reader as my rss reader, and I have 3 dozens of subscriptions. I had 2 exams this week, MBA requires some effort, and it’s been several days since I read posts.
You won’t believe how many new posts I had – over 200!! I’m really starting to appreciate all those RSS readers, like google – they can save you time by showing all your subscriptions in one place. Thanks!

I read through some of my subscriptions and found posts about presentations – how to make a successful presentation, where to find good pictures, the rules – a lot of info.
I have a presentation coming up this Sunday, and I decided to put to the test some of these tips, and start with the pictures tip.

The basic idea is that a presentation should appeal to your emotion. And that your slides should support what you say, not repeat it. Don’t overload your slides with text. The 10/20/30 rule (Guy Kawasaki) says that your presentation should have 10 slides, take 20 minutes and font size of 30 or above. If your slides repeat what you say, the audience doesn’t need you.

So, I’m going to make some adjustments to my presentation and I’ll let you know the outcome next week..

And thanks to Seth’s Blog, Guy Kawasaki and Presentation Zen for their contributions.

Widgets are here.. widgetsbox.com

Just saw an interesting article in TheMarker.com, an Israeli online news site, about the next thing (or the present thing) in blogs: Widgets. The article is titled “Blogs with everything” (nice..).
I don’t have to explain what widgets are, only that they can enhance (a lot) your personal website. This new site TheMarker mentioned is widgetbox.com, a very intuitive site, with hundreds of widgets that can be installed in seconds into your blog.

You can see that I have 2 widgets already, a weather report for Tel Aviv, Israel and a news feed for Digg.com. There are many-many more at their website.

Anyway, if you’re blogging, try it out..

Irvin “Internet” Wladawsky-Berger is leaving IBM

Although this is my ‘external’ blog, I decided to make an exception and talk for the first time about my work – IBM. Last week I read in this post by Todd Watson that Irvin Wladawsky-Berger, VP Innovation and Technology at IBM will be retiring after 37 years.

I haven’t met Irvin is person, I know him only be reputation, and his blog, which is a priceless source for innovation and technology trends, for both IBMers and the rest of the world.

Irvin has been the forefront for IBM’s innovation activities for over 20 years. He worked under previous CEO Lou Gerstner, and was pretty much the driving force behind IBM’s decision to enter the web, along with John Patrick.

So, this is my farewell post to Irvin. I know he’ll find comfort and challenge in his future activities, and hope to meet him some day, the sooner the better…

US Presidential race begins – on the web!

Conventional media should start to fear. If they haven’t already started to fear, they should now.
Whether or not you think this web 2.0 is a bubble or not, the recent announcements from 2 of the democratic candidates, are a sign or the future. The future of coverage of major events in a country’s history.

Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have opted for the web to announce their plans for the up-coming presidential race. Hillary said in her blog “I’m IN”, and started her race.
Barack said on his website about his recent decision to form a Presidential Exploratory Committee. Interesting choice of media, for both. Why over the web and not a press conference? Starting the buzz from the bottom up perhaps? only time will tell…
Both senators have a large presence on the web, with Hillary in the lead: Barack Obama for President will give you just over 2 million and Hillary’s query will give you just under 5 million results.

The race is going to be interesting. The web allows both candidates to decide what they want to talk about, and are less dependent of traditional media like TV for coverage, but it opens up a lot of opportunities to undermine the campaign. In Hillary’s query, notice the 4th result – I will not support Hillary for President. Makes you think how Google’s algorithm is working…

American Idol is back!

Folks, AI is back, for the 6th time.
Most of you would probably say that the main issue of the show is to find ‘The Next American Idol”, but I say that it’s all about the auditions. If it’s the only part you’re watching, let it be the auditions. Funny, yet disturbing at the same time. I hate to say, but some of the contestants have serious issues. Serious. Major.
There were couple of guys in Minnesota and Seattle that I would strongly recommend keep a close eye on, and now allowing them near your children.

Anyhow, for more important things: Prison Break is back!! and Heroes!! Tomorrow! Did I tell you that Hiro Nakamora is my personal Hero? and did you know that Heroes has their own page at Wikipedia? Awesome…

And, we’ll wrap up this post with the series everyone’s been waiting for: 24. And I’m not the only one that has been waiting: another 33 million people have also been waiting, not to mention tens of thousand more on the web. Agent Jack Bauer is back, resenbeling Saddam Hussein with the hair and all, but after 2 hours is the old Jack we know.

So, set your Tivo (or your other recording/downloading devices) – finally there’s something to watch on TV.
